5 Must-Know Skincare Tips for Healthy, Easy-to-Maintain Skin in 2025
It's the new year, and with all the goals and resolutions, do yours include taking care of your skin? Skincare goals or a new routine likely arenât in your resolutions, but now reading this, you're thinking, ooh they should be...
Your skin deserves a little love - especially after everything you put it through outside.
So here are five easy skincare resolutions and tips that will keep your skin healthy, looking good, and ready for your next outdoor adventure you put it through.
1) Wear Sunscreen⌠Yup, it's that important!
We know you hear this all the time, but itâs a non-negotiable. Sunscreen is your first line of defense against sun damage, premature aging, skin cancer, and even long-term effects like pigmentation or collagen loss. Opt for a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher and reapply every two hoursâyes, even on cloudy days or snowy slopes.
You've likely heard mineral is best, and it's good, but don't shy away from non-mineral sunscreens (they're not bad) if that's what you'll wear regularly. Buy whichever one you like applying and wearing - texture, feel, etc - otherwise, you're not going to use it!
Staying out of the sun is the most important thing to keep your skin looking good, but we're never going to that... So just be sure to use a sunscreen. Trust us, your future self will thank you, and your friends will be jealous of your skin when you're older.
2) Thoroughly Wash Your Face at Night
After a long day outdoors, your skin is covered in sweat, sunscreen, and dirt. A thorough cleanse at night is a must to prevent clogged pores and irritation.
Find a gentle yet effective cleanser that works for your skin type, and make it part of your evening ritual. You don't want one that will strip your face of all its natural oils - feels dry and squeaky - or not properly take off your sunscreen, dirt, or make-up say if you swipe a cotton swab over it with a toner.Â
3) Moisturize EVERYDAY (Really)
Your skin works hard to protect you, so give it the moisture and hydration it needs to be happy and healthy. Use a cream, moisturizer, facial oil, or something to replenish its moisture levels, which will then naturally help strengthen your skin barrier.
Note that lotions, creams, moisturizers, and many serums have both moisturizing and hydrating ingredients, just in different set ratios. So when you're using one, you're giving your skin both. Why note this? Well moisture and hydration are the most important thing for your skin, learn more here.
Literally, after sunscreen, it's the most important thing for supporting healthy and good-looking skin. It seems simple, but it's oh so powerful.
Don't know what moisturizer to use? Well, Surf+Slope is an all-in-one duo that's perfect. It's designed for every climate and adventure. Donât have it yet? No problem!Â
Whatever you have on hand is better than nothing. And if you do it every day, even with a basic moisturizer, your skin is going to look better in the long run compared to someone who doesn't...Â
4) Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate
Hydration isnât just about applying hydrating products like serums and toners - or our Surf+Slope Revitalizing Serum. Your skin glows when your bodyâs hydrated.
So drink plenty of water throughout the day, especially after sun exposure, surfing, skiing, and doing things outside. Forget about the physical exercise and your heart rate increasing, simply soaking in salt water (aka surfing) further dehydrates you as well as being at high altitudes (skiing in the mountains). Â
A big reusable water bottle is your best buddy to stay hydrated as you want to aim to drink half your body weight in ounces. So if say you weigh 140lbs you need 70oz of water, and then 12 oz per each 30min of exercise. That can be a lot of water!
Throw in some natural electrolytes via coconut water or the other countless options out there - but get the ones without sugar (as sugar essentially ages your skin by breaking down collagen and elastin - which leads to wrinkles - and can also cause breakouts by increasing inflammation and oil production).
5) Ditch the Cleansing Wet Wipes
Convenient? Yes. Good for your skin and the planet? Not so much.
Cleansing wipes essentially just move around the dirt and oil, not fully removing everything.
Plus, the majority aren't biodegradable as they're made of plastics and are a major contributor to environmental waste. For instance, itâs estimated that over 1.3 billion wipes are used daily worldwide, many of which end up in landfills or oceans.
And why do you want to rub some extra microplastics on your face or body? Then, also have these microplastics seep further into our environment and water systems?Â
Opt for a reusable washcloth or biodegradable alternatives (when necessary - like backpacking in the desert).

These five simple resolutions will help keep your skin healthy and glowing, no matter what adventures 2025 brings.
