Know where the badass botanicals you put on your face are from!
Do you know where the ingredients are grown in your products?
Probably not, cause the industry likes to keep these things a secret. But it's also a lot of extra work keeping track of ingredient origins as your typical supplier has too many middle-men.
When pressing to get origins, many said, "no sorry, it's a liability..."
Why does it have to be?
Traceable skincare, or transparent skincare, should be the norm!
If the farmer's market won't tell you where those juicy red tomatoes are grown, you’re rightfully skeptical
Why aren't we curious about the plant origins of farm-to-face sustainable skincare too?
If you're payin' more for farm grown, organic, fair-trade - you name it! - skincare, you deserve to know where it's from too.
It's portrayed like a farmers market for your face, but you're lucky if you can find out where one-to-three plant ingredients are grown.
But all ingredients?! Not until Surf+Slope
You care about what foods you put in your body and where they're from. Why not what you put on your face too?
Traceability. It's simple.
You deserve to know your skincare ingredients' origins.
Know where the power plants are grown sustainably by farmers.
Where they're ethically sourced from.
Where ALL our 27 Ingredients are grown!
*The map above shows the countries where all Surf+Slope's ingredients are from, but pin drops may not be the exact location. Business names are withheld at this time for the reasons below - yet intend to share later!
**Note that ingredient country origins may change in the future as they can vary from batch to batch.
19 ingredients are grown by farmers in North America
That's 92% of Surf+Slope!
Leaving only 8% of the formula grown and made elsewhere.
These are the 8 ingredients you see on 3 neighboring continents👆 They're responsibly sourced and have direct lower-carbon trade routes into the US.
These 8 are the exception as local sources aren't available, yet they're too awesome in the formula omit!
Traceable skincare + transparent carbon footprint
You deserve to know where ingredients are from and how this may affect their carbon footprint.
Products designed for good by using native plants, locally grown ingredients, and opting for lower-emission modes of transportation.
Granted just cause it's local doesn't necessarily mean it's better if it's say transported by air vs truck. Or is a plant ingredient that's at risk, endangered, or requires extra resource to grow.
92% of ingredients from farmers nearby = low(est) ingredient carbon footprint
Transparent packaging carbon emissions
Surf+Slopes isn't exceptional, but that's because:
Pretty much anything in glass is going to have a worse carbon emissions rating than plastic.
Due to the glass manufacturing process and it's weight. Yet, it could be a type of glass - like ours - that's infinitely recyclable or reusable, whereas that low-carbon plastic might not be.
Glass is also a better and safer vessel for specific types of products, like a facial oil. Some formulas can even have reactions with plastics.
Adding to this, Surf+Slope's bottles are from China as there's literally no glass manufactures in North America that'll make bottles under 5oz with low order quantities. There's one that'll do a 50k minimum...
Yet, even if the glass bottles are made here, and say shipped by air from Mexico, it's barely a difference in emissions than sea fright shipping from China 😳 I know, crazy.
You've really got to weigh the pros and cons of each, and what type of formula it is, before judging it solely on it's carbon emissions.
Committed to reducing our carbon footprint further
Surf+Slope proudly has one of the lowest ingredient carbon footprints in beauty.
Note, these ingredients - that make up the Surf+Slope formulas - weigh more than it's glass packaging...

The carbon Nation Botanics must emit to exist is offset 👇
We wipe out more carbon than we create
This is done by planting mangrove trees and other ocean plants that are incredibly efficient at sequestering carbon.
Making Nation Botanics an Ocean+Positive brand that's verified Climate Neutral by Sustainable Surf.
How do you figure this out?
Nation Botanics' measures our annual carbon footprint - down to the milligram weight of each component and it's distance travelled by boat, plane, or truck to us, and then you - with Bluebird Climate.
Tracability is a risk worth taking
Supplier poaching is a risk and it's a root cause of the industry's secrecy.
It's even risker for a skincare company to share it's suppliers...
Because your competitors can buy all of the inventory, so you can't make your products!! Plus, if suppliers are known it's easy to reverse engineer a formula - meaning create an identical product - with the same ingredient quality.
A competitor knock-off, or your seasonal plant ingredients being snatched by a competitor, will put you out of business.
Nation Botanics believes you deserve to know beyond what's in the bottle and where ingredients are from.
That's traceable skincare.
